ANI Profile

American Nuclear Insurers (ANI) is a joint underwriting association created by some of the largest insurance companies in the United States. Our purpose is to pool the financial assets pledged by our member companies to provide the significant amount of property and liability insurance required for nuclear power plants and related facilities throughout the world.

ANI’s members include many of the largest insurance companies in the United States. In addition, through quota-share reinsurance agreements with foreign nuclear insurance pools and mutual insurers around the world, we can offer our insureds substantial levels of insurance protection.

Through the years, the nuclear industry has achieved an impressive safety record. As insurers, ANI is proud of the role we continue to play in supporting the nuclear industry.

ANI Participates in Nuclear Energy Assembly	ANI representatives attended the NEI annual conference –Nuclear Energy Assembly–held May 18-20 in Washington, DC. George Turner President and CEO of ANI also attended the NEI Board meeting held prior to the conference. This is the nuclear industry’s state-of-the-industry meeting. Price-Anderson Act Evaluated—A European Perspective	The Introduction to “Compensating Nuclear Damage: A Comparative Economic Analysis of the U.S. and International Liability Schemes," is our latest entry in Perspectives. This detailed article reviews and compares the Price-Anderson Act with the international nuclear liability regime, i.e., with the Paris and Vienna conventions on civil nuclear liability. Professor Michael Faure and Dr. Tom Vanden Borre wrote the paper as part of their research at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, and have graciously authorized ANI to publish it here. Jones’ Article Launches New ANI Web Resource	ANI’s public web site now features a Perspectives page that presents noteworthy essays and articles about the nuclear power industry. Our inaugural article, “Nuclear Insurance: Where Does It Fit in the Green Generation?”, is authored by Richard D. Jones, ANI’s Director of Underwriting. The article (also published in the Journal of Reinsurance, Spring 2009), discusses how increasing energy demand and global warming have given nuclear power technology a new relevance.
